Sweet site revision! Super happy to see that ext2fsd is still in development, and now it’s signed! I’ll report back once I boot into Vista tomorrow to try it

    Awesome work!

    EXT4 support?

  6. Carlos Says:

    apparently no ext4 support.
screwed up my ext4 system partition (ubuntu karmic UNR) :-(
    linux not booting up.
kernel panic – not syncing : VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block (0,0)

  7. José Antonio Meira da Rocha Says:

No problems with my ext4 partitions updated from ext3. Ubuntu 9.04.

  8. José Antonio Meira da Rocha Says:

Ho-ho. New or rewrited files in ext4 partitions becames unreadable or show garbage, accessed from Windows. But files can be copied form NTFS to ext4 partitions.

I’d like to add my comment that I find it urgent that Ext2FSD be made compatible with ext4. Now that Ubuntu has made ext4 the default file system, many dual-booters, myself included, are finding themselves unable to access their Linux files from their Windows partitions. In my case, I suffered no file damage in my Karmic installation, but was unable to view any files or directories below the root directory from within Explorer.

With ext4 becoming not only widespread but the de facto standard, it would be unfortunate should a program so useful and otherwise robust as Ext2fds suddenly become obsolete.

  11. Stanford Galeano Says:

I just had to post to say how much I love your site, keep up the good work.

  12. Jon A Says:

This works great. I am working with a D-Link DNS-343 NAS (RAID 1) and have been testing ways to recover data in the event of a NAS Failure. (With RAID 1, a disk failure shouldn’t be the end of the world.) The NAS formats the Volumes as EXT3 with inode size of 256. With EXT2FSD I have been able to verify that I can read files from drives removed from the NAS and connected to my Windows 7 PC with a USB adapter. Wonderful Stuff!!! Keep up the good work.

  23. hard drive recovery software Says:

Complex recoveries involve hard drives, RAID arrays, tape and optical media or corrupted databases and file systems usually from multi-user, business systems. Data storage at the high end has become a very complex field. In the case of these complex systems data recovery can be seen as “troubleshooting data storage.”
